Vitamins for Hair Growth

If you have always wanted long, luxurious hair and thought maybe taking certain vitamins could help, you are absolutely right!  Taking vitamin supplements can easily make a difference in the length of time it takes your hair to grow and the strength and quality of the hair that grows.  Before you begin your vitamin regimen for hair growth, you will need to follow a few guidelines.

Before you start, you will need to have realistic expectations on how long and thick your hair will be.  Blame it all on genetics.  If your mothers’ side of the family mostly has shoulder length hair, and your father’s side of the family has waist length hair, reasonable expectations will be that you can grow your hair to your waist.

Once you have decided on a reasonable goal, you will also have to take into account the health of your hair.  If you have damaged ends or dry, brittle hair, you should take care of these problems before beginning any vitamin-for-hair-growth regimen.   If you try using vitamins for hair growth before you have fixed your damaged hair, your hair will not thrive long enough for you to see any results.  Healthy hair grows best.  Other factors will also determine the health of your hair such as stress, illnesses, a poor diet or certain medications.  Get a clean bill of health from your family physician before starting any vitamin regimen.

Now that you are sure that you are healthy and your hair is healthy, you can begin your vitamin for hair growth regimen.   The vitamins that determine hair growth are B vitamins, vitamin C and vitamin E.  Each of these vitamins contains specific elements that aid in your bodily functions.  The different B Vitamins contain riboflavin, thiamin, niacin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, folic acid and cobalamin.  These elements all support bodily functions such as oxidation, cell repair, DNA Synthesis and breaks down the carbohydrates in the body.  To get the best results, make sure you take a supplement that includes all of these elements.  If you would like to up the intake of these specific vitamins through your diet, B vitamins are prevalent in legumes, vegetables, grains, eggs and liver.

You will also need to up your intake of Vitamin C.  Vitamin C contains nutrients for a wide range of metabolic processes in the body that is required for the synthesis of collagen.  Vitamin C can be added through your diet with supplements or by eating citrus fruits, green peppers, potatoes, berries and leafy greens.

Lastly you will want to up your intake of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is very important in forming red blood cells and is an antioxidant that protects the body from damage such as cell damage, tissue and organ damage.  By taking Vitamin E regularly you can increase the circulation in your body which in turn aids in the growth of healthier, longer hair.   Vitamin E can also be taken through supplements or by eating asparagus, olives, seeds, avocados, vegetable oils, and cucumbers.

Just remember this…healthy people grow healthy hair. So watch your diet, make sure you take in the proper amounts of the above three vitamins, and watch your hair grow to that long, shiny and luxurious length you’ve always dreamed of!
